So many times I walked into a store and found the most amazing hand-blocked pillow, or came across an advertisement with the best wallpaper I have ever seen and was so overcome with excitement I thought I was going to faint…. and had no one to share it with! Oh my god, I have to tell someone about this mirrored parsons table, half off!! But who?? Then I discovered the world of blogging. Individuals just like me who shared stories, observations, projects, purchases, and the love of making a home beautiful. So I would love to share with you my story, as well as, my love for all things lavish!
My name is Nicole and I am a born and raised New Yorker, the Bronx to be exact (I got to represent). I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and since then have bounced around from job to job trying to figure out what makes me happy. I realized, Interior design and home décor makes me happy, but I have no formal training or opportunities to showcase what I am capable of.
When Steve and I purchased our first home I knew it was a great way for me to prove to myself and others that I have the skills to make a lavish home, on a less than lavish budget. Steve, my other half (better is still being debated), happens to be an amazingly talented craftsman and wood worker. We completely gutted out our house and Steve built everything by hand. So let me just say, I am definitely spoiled in that aspect. I am not going to lie and say I cut my own wood, put up moldings, or hang light fixtures…..I don’t. That’s all Steve. Everything else….well, that’s all me!
I love spending money on my home, but nothing makes me more satisfied than knowing I scored a great deal, or that I was capable of making something myself for $100 that would have cost me $300. Some things are worth splurging on, and some are worth taking the time to “do it yourself”
My recipe for a Lavish home:
3 cups of budget friendly purchases
1 heaping table spoon of DIY projects
A few dashes of necessary splurges
Topped with a scoop of satisfaction
Invite some friends over and enjoy!!
